ABOUT OUR PROJECT
ACTIVE DESIGN MIAMI
The Miami Center for Architecture and Design (MCAD) developed Active Design Miami as part of a contract with the Florida Department of Health, funded through the Centers for Disease Control. Active Design Miami, in consultation with numerous community partners, produced guidelines for creating healthier buildings, parks and open spaces, development patterns, transportation, and mobility.
Miami-Dade County faces health challenges that can benefit from the use of Active Design strategies. This includes rising obesity and chronic disease rates, and high rates of depression and other mental health issues. The Active Design Guidelines will be updated to support the health of communities, most importantly those that are underserved and were particularly affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
