As Executive Vice President of AIA Miami and MCAD, As Executive Vice President of AIA Miami and MCAD, Cheryl Jacobs guides both organizations in developing and implementing programming that promotes architecture, design, and the built environment. In addition, Cheryl works closely with both organizations’ outstanding volunteer boards to create forums, seminars, and events that improve industry awareness and build a strong community and member connectivity. 

As the founding Executive Director of MCAD, she has been instrumental in its development by organizing exhibitions and programs that connect the importance of Architecture to the community. Her mission is to promote collaboration amongst community leaders in all creative industries to work together to improve the community’s quality of life. With 20+ years of association and non-profit leadership experience, Cheryl has developed an exceptional network of high-level contacts in the architecture and real estate industry in south Florida. 

She currently is the Project Director for MCAD’s “Active Design Miami” effort, supported by a grant from the Florida Department of Health Miami-Dade and the Centers for Disease Control. April 7, 2022, was declared Cheryl Jacobs Day by the Mayor of Miami-Dade County at MCAD’s Urban Warrior Awards.

She has also served as a panelist at various CACE Conferences. Cheryl will serve on the CACE board as Vice President in 2023. Cheryl has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. Furthermore, she is a graduate of Leadership Miami and Leadership Daytona Beach.

Valéry Augustin is a designer, educator, and foun Valéry Augustin is a designer, educator, and founder of the award-winning design practice DNA Architecture + Design. Valéry received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Miami and a Master of Architecture from UCLA and is licensed to practice in California, Florida, and Texas. Actively committed to practice and academia, Valery is an Associate Professor of Practice and Director of Global Studies at the USC School of Architecture.

DNA Architecture + Design is based in Los Angeles and was founded on the basic principles that good design can make a difference. As a design practice, the firm has completed a diverse range of projects, including single and multi-family residential, commercial, and hospitality in Southern California and domestically across the U.S. DNA Architecture + Design is tackling L.A.’s housing crises by designing transitional housing shelters. These adaptive reuse projects are a vital part of the City’s strategy to address the growing number of homeless Angelenos. DNA has been involved in six homeless shelter projects, with two projects currently in construction. 

The work of DNA Architecture + Design has been exhibited nationally at several venues, including Fordham University in New York, the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in North Carolina. He is a frequent guest critic at local universities and a symposium panelist. Valery has been featured on CNN and invited to lecture on his research and DNA Architecture and Design work. DNA Architecture was recently featured alongside other local design firms in a Los Angeles Magazine article on innovative solutions to L.A.’s growing affordable housing problem.

Joanna Lombard, AIA, LEED AP, is an architect and Joanna Lombard, AIA, LEED AP, is an architect and Professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture with a joint appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Miller School of Medicine. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Joanna is a founding member of the UM Built-Environment Behavior & Health Research Group and the Board of Directors of the National Recreation & Park Association. She professionally links research and design to strategies for designing healthy buildings and communities and consultations with healthcare systems to develop new and retrofit existing campuses.
